Recently, a disabled Seattle woman’s family secretly set up a camera in her nursing home room for her protection. They caught her being sexually assaulted more than once by a nursing assistant. And there is another investigation involving a sexual assault at the same facility!
In Arkansas, it’s against the law to install cameras – like the one who caught this nursing assistant – in nursing homes to check on loved ones. Do you think the law should change?
Earlier this week, we saw the 16th anniversary of the death of South Arkansan Willie Mae Ryan. She was a nursing home resident who died from injuries after being beaten with brass knuckles while in the care of a nursing home. Police said one aide held her down while another administered the beating. The nurse accused of the beating was not convicted even though there was a witness. Just think what a difference having a camera in the room would have made!
